In what we would call the bargain of the century, a gigantic Pelamis generator has just been bought by Orkney Islands’ Council for £1!
We love epic machinery here at Top Generator Hire so we just had to talk about the news of this generator sale making waves on BBC News.
Pelamis made history by being the first to manufacture a deep-water, floating wave generator, originally built to generate power for the national grid.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer went into administration in 2014, which led to the selling off of this one of a kind machine.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the sale comes along with a cash payment in excess of £45,000 (offered by Emec in the hopes of covering the expense of scrapping the beast of a generator).
In spite of this, the council have made a statement saying that they hope to give the generator a new lease of life and find another use for the ex-Pelamis unit.
